A man accused of having an access code to get into a Sandy Springs apartment complex to commit a carjacking is behind bars, authorities said.

Malik Jones, of Philadelphia, faces several charges after a woman was carjacked at the Novel Perimeter apartments two weeks ago, police told Channel 2 Action News.

The woman was walking to her car when she spotted the man, who she said was acting strangely, according to a 911 call obtained by Channel 2.

“I was in the parking (lot), and a man who had the access code to the building that I’m visiting a friend in — he was bizarre, but he had a key to the private residences,” the woman said.

Moments later, she said Jones stole her purse and phone and drove off.

“He just stole me car,” she said in the call. “He’s driving away in my car. I don’t know what to do ... this is my worst nightmare.”

Both the car and Jones were later found by police, and he was booked into the Fulton County jail Aug. 11, according to jail records. He faces charges of felony theft by taking, robbery, obstruction and escaping confinement.

AJC.com has reached out to Sandy Springs police to learn more about his other charges. He remained in jail Friday afternoon without bond.
