A woman was surprised when a driver who hit her while she was walking in a north Fulton County crosswalk stopped — then drove off.

Ashley Harris told Channel 2 Action News she was crossing the street in the crosswalk at the intersection of Mansell Road and Houze Road in Roswell on March 4.

"I had the light to cross and while I was crossing the street, at the crosswalk, a sea green Toyota Corolla  was trying to make a right turn on the red light and they failed to yield and they struck me," Harris said.

The car hit Harris in the thigh, and the force of the blow knocked her over, according to a police report obtained by AJC.com. She got up and put both hands on the car and told the driver to pull over into the turn lane, the report said.

But instead, the driver kept going, and Harris had to jump out of the way.

"When she realized she hit me, it looks like she panicked and she just fled the scene, so it was a hit-and-run,” Harris said.

Roswell police officers are still trying to track down the car involved. Police spokeswoman Lisa Holland said the driver will face hit-and-run charges.

"She had to have known now that she did hit somebody but continued off the scene anyway,” Holland told Channel 2.

Harris told investigators the driver was a woman with blond hair. She gave police a partial tag; the license plate starts with the letter “B.”

"She hit me and just took off,” she said. “What if I was just her grandchild or her daughter? Would she want someone to do that to her?"

Harris said she ended up in the hospital from her injuries. She said she’s thankful to be alive after the crash.

"I'm very scared to cross the street now because I don't want something like this to happen to me again,” she said.
