An up-and-coming local Latin singer and rapper and former Georgia State University student was killed by a stray bullet in Colombia last week.

Members of metro Atlanta’s Latino community are mourning the death of Fabio Legarda, who grew up in Alpharetta and was known for shows at Chamblee’s Plaza Fiesta, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Legarda's Instagram account has nearly 3 million followers.

The 29-year-old graduated from GSU with a degree in business before he found fame in music. He moved from Atlanta to Colombia and got a record deal with Sony, according to the news station.

“He had it all, like the golden child. He had that talent, the charisma, the looks,” his former manager, Dino Thompson-Sarmiento, told Channel 2. “He was living his best life and it was extraordinary to be a part of that.”

Legarda was in an Uber leaving a mall Thursday when a stray bullet struck him as a security guard was trying to stop a robbery, according to Channel 2.

Friends said his family plans to bring his body back to Atlanta. Legarda’s parents are still in Colombia.

A memorial service in Colombia drew 15,000 to a stadium Sunday.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
