The west Georgia event center where 10 people were shot Sunday morning has had its business license revoked, an official told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Ron Garrett, director of business and zoning for Meriwether County, said he revoked Monday the license for Hill Haven Event Center, the Greenville establishment where flying bullets wounded five women and five men. The sheriff of Meriwether County — located about 60 miles southwest of Atlanta — has said investigators believe a gambling dispute preceded several people pulling guns and firing “indiscriminate shots.”

The license revocation, however, was based on the presence of alcohol, Garrett said.

Garrett said Hill Haven Event Center was licensed to host events like birthday parties, weddings and family reunions, but does not have an alcohol license. The zoning director said alcohol was on-site during the event in question — which he believed to be a birthday party — but he wasn’t sure if it was provided by the center or brought in by guests.

Hill Haven, which is leasing the roughly 2,500-square-foot space, can appeal its license revocation to the county’s board of commissioners, Garrett said.

Messages left at the center have not been returned.

Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith said deputies responded to the facility around 3 a.m. Sunday to find three people wounded, and later learned that seven more had left to get medical attention on their own. All 10 victims, who ranged in age from 16 to 29, have since been released from the hospital.

As of Monday, none of the alleged shooters had been identified or apprehended. Messages left with the sheriff’s office Tuesday afternoon were not immediately returned.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 706-672-4489.
