A LaGrange man who faces rape and sodomy charges in Alabama was arrested in Illinois last week, authorities said.

Demetrius Dionte Bass, 22, was arrested Thursday at a hotel in Gurnee, Ill., the Lake County (Ill.) Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. Deputies and U.S. marshals were able to track the wanted man to a hotel in the 5000 block of Grand Avenue.

Bass has active warrants out of Elmore County, Ala., for first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy, the post said. AJC.com has reached out to the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office for more information on those warrants.

Bass was in the Lake County area, which is about 40 miles outside of Chicago, likely “avoiding apprehension” in Alabama, the post said. He was captured without incident while walking through a parking lot.

He was taken to the Lake County Jail, where he remains with no bond, jail records show. He is awaiting extradition to Alabama.
