A candlelight vigil for a security guard killed when trying to stop a shoplifter, will be held at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Lilburn at 6 p.m. on Thursday, according to a release.

J.D. Ferguson was trying to stop a man from stealing three flat-screen televisions, police said.

Making Change at Walmart, UFCW Local 1996, the Atlanta Labor Council and Georgia House Representative Dewey McClain will present Walmart management with a bulletproof vest at the vigil.

The groups hope the vest will demonstrate how Ferguson could’ve been saved, according to the release.

Ferguson's family will accept donations at the vigil and online at a GoFundMe page.
