A man who had been on the run for a week after escaping a police chase in Gilmer County was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.

Jeremy Cruse, 34, was taken into custody after deputies received several tips that he had returned to the Walnut Grove area, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. A stolen motorcycle was recovered during the arrest.

On April 30, he allegedly jumped out of a Ford Fusion at the end of a police chase, escaping capture near Gentry Drive in Gilmer County, AJC.com previously reported. He was wanted on a felony probation violation.

The incident caused hospitals and nursing homes in the area to be placed on lockdown in addition to nearby schools, despite the escape happening after schools had let out for the day.

A passenger in his car, Cristy Shetter, was taken into custody on a misdemeanor obstruction charge, according to the Gilmer sheriff’s office.

It’s unclear whether Cruse will face more charges stemming from the manhunt.
