Man dies after shooting ex-wife, himself at Duluth hair salon, police say

One woman is dead and the suspected gunman is in the hospital.

A man has died after shooting his ex-wife at her Duluth hair salon Monday morning and turning the gun on himself, according to police.

Duluth police said Myyoung Lee, 48, the owner of Edge Total Hair, and her ex-husband, Namyoon Cha, 62, were recently divorced. Cha confronted Lee at the salon just before 10 a.m. Monday.

Officers on scene told Channel 2 Action News that Cha ordered everyone to clear the salon before he started shooting.

“The suspect opened fire on his ex-wife as she tried to flee from the front door of the hair salon that she owned and operated,” police spokesman Officer Ted Sadowski said Tuesday in a news release. “The suspect shot his ex-wife a total of two times before running back inside and shooting himself.”

When police arrived at the salon in a shopping center on the corner of Pleasant Hill and North Berkeley Lake roads, they found the woman lying in the parking lot. The first officer on the scene tried to revive her, Sadowski said, but the officer was ultimately unsuccessful. Lee was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cha was found with a gunshot wound to the head and taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, where he later died.

“No other parties were injured during this sad, horrific incident,” Sadowski said.

The woman’s adult daughter, who worked at the hair salon, was inside the business when the shooting took place, police said.

Friends of Lee's daughter have set up a GoFundMe page to help the family with funeral expenses. The campaign had raised more than $13,000 of its $50,000 goal as of Friday morning.
