Two people were injured after a bus carrying Augusta Preparatory Day School’s golf team crashed into a truck Thursday afternoon.

The crash occurred just before 12:30 p.m. south of Macon on Ga. 49, according to a statement on the school’s Facebook page. The bus was headed to Perry at the time.

Coach Chuck Mason was ejected from the bus and remains in critical condition at Navicent Health in Macon, the Macon Telegraph reported. The bus driver, Shirley Orange, was also injured in the crash but was treated and released, according to the school.

Four students were also on board the bus when it hit a flatbed truck carrying concrete bricks, Jones County sheriff's Investigator Kenny Allen told the Telegraph.

None of the four student-athletes was injured, according to the school, but they were evaluated by the pediatric medical team as a precaution.

“Please keep our beloved coach in your thoughts and prayers,” Peter Huestis, Head of School, said in a statement.

The crash closed Ga. 49 for roughly two hours.
