Newton County authorities have arrested a 34-year-old woman in connection with the death of her 57-year-old mother.

Carly Walden called 911 around 7 a.m. Sunday to report that her mother, Andrea Walker, had been shot at their Alcovy Way home, Newton sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Cortney Morrison said. Deputies arriving at the home met with Walden outside and, after a room-to-room search, found Walker shot and lying on a bed in a back bedroom.

Walker was pronounced dead at the scene. The GBI was expected to perform an autopsy.

Her daughter was taken into custody without incident, Morrison said. Walden faces charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

“No motive has been identified yet and case is still under investigation,” Morrison said in a news release.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
