A man died after being run over following a multicar crash in DeKalb County, authorities said.

The incident happened in the 2100 block of South Stone Mountain Lithonia Road on Monday night, DeKalb police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer said.

The victim got out of his vehicle after the wreck and was run over by another vehicle, Spencer said. Channel 2 Action News reported that a smashed pickup truck and an SUV in a ditch were visible at the scene.

The man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, but he later died, Spencer said. It’s unclear whether anyone else was injured.

DeKalb police’s Traffic Specialist Unit is investigating. It’s unclear whether charges will be filed.
