A Coweta County man is facing felony murder and other charges after his 6-month-old son died more than a month after an incident at home, sheriff’s officials confirmed Tuesday.

Christopher Halver-Gene Hansen, 30, of Newnan, is jailed without bond, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office said.

Emergency workers answered a 911 call from Hansen on June 17 at a house on Chestnut Drive, according to a report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. At a Newnan hospital, Hansen told a deputy that his son was choking, according to the report.

The child was flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, where he was placed on life support, officials confirmed.

Doctors told investigators the infant had non-accidental trauma, and Hansen was charged with aggravated battery, according to officials. He was released on bond.

The child died last Tuesday, according to sheriff’s officials.

Hansen also was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of child cruelty, sheriff’s officials said. He was taken into custody Friday.
