A Newton County man who fired at another man after he allegedly kicked in his door is now facing drug and gun charges, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said Friday.

Jerald Ralph Woomer of a Spring Road address in Covington fired several shots at Gerard Walter Montour on Wednesday, Sgt. Cortney Morrison said.

After the incident, deputies searched Woomer’s home and charged him with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects and having a handgun during the commission of a crime.

Officials don’t know whether Montour was hit by any of the gunshots, but the men also got into an intense fistfight, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“When deputies came out, there was so much blood they were unable to ascertain whether he was shot or not,” Morrison told Channel 2.

Montour was taken to a hospital, where he remained Thursday. When he’s released, he’ll face criminal trespass and battery charges, Morrison said.
