A north Cobb County homeowner confronted an intruder and held him as he called 911, authorities said.

The victim told Acworth police that the suspect entered his Haynes Mill Court home early Sunday morning through a back window.

He ordered him to stop, but the man did not comply, Acworth police spokesman Capt. Mark Cheatham said in a news release. A struggle ensued.

“The victim was able to gain control of the suspect while 911 was called,” Cheatham said.

The suspect, identified by police as 43-year-old Ric Mines of Snellville, was combative toward officers who responded to the scene just before 2 a.m. Sunday, according to the release.

Mines was injured at some point during the incident and taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment before he was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

He is being held there on felony and misdemeanor counts of obstruction, according to online jail records. He also faces charges of criminal trespass and simple battery, also misdemeanors.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Acworth Police Department at 770-974-1232.
