Police are searching for the person who beat a homeless man to death behind a southeast Atlanta gas station.
Billy Bethune, 52, was found dead behind a Chevron station on Boulevard Street in Grant Park around 9 a.m. Friday, Atlanta police spokesman Jarius Daugherty said. He’s believed to have died from blunt force trauma to his head.
He was well-known to the community in the area, and a worker found his body where he was known to sleep, Channel 2 Action News reported. Police have offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this investigation.

Neighbors told Channel 2 that customers and workers at the gas station loved Bethune, who they said held the door open for everyone and did favors for people.
“I’m glad we know where he’s at, and he’s not just under a bridge somewhere,” neighbor Denyne Williams told the news station through tears. “I hope that one hit was what put him out, and he didn’t know anything different from that point on.”
