A man was convicted earlier this month of shooting his “former friend” five times, killing him in 2018, authorities said.

Miguel Angel Garcia-Martinez, 34, of Mexico, was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault and four firearm-related crimes in the death of 27-year-old Daniel Antonio-Lopez, the Newton County District Attorney’s Office said.

On Jan. 6, 2018, Garcia-Martinez pulled out a .45-caliber pistol and shot Antonio-Lopez four times before firing a fifth time and hitting him in the forehead, the DA’s Office said in a Facebook post. He fired the last gunshot “as he stood over (Antonio-Lopez’s) lifeless body.”

He then held three other “friends” at gunpoint, demanding their keys, the post said. Garcia-Martinez fled the scene, which was along Russell Drive, but was later arrested by Covington police, AJC.com previously reported.

Garcia-Martinez’s jail booking said he was homeless in the Conyers area at the time of the incident.
