A grieving family is hoping for swift justice after a grandfather of four was hit and killed by a driver in Cobb County on Tuesday night.

The family of 58-year-old Thomas Hernandez told Channel 2 Action News they were devastated after hearing that he was found on the side of Smyrna Powder Springs Road.

“Can’t believe it,” Jose Hernandez, Thomas’ son, told Channel 2 on Monday. “Just shock.”

Hernandez said his father was walking home from work when he was hit by a vehicle. He was walking on the side of the road, Cobb police told the news station.

Another driver called 911 but wasn’t able to get a good look at the driver or the vehicle’s license plate. The only description of the vehicle available is that it was a speeding “passenger-type car” that likely has front-end damage, police said.

“That will be somebody who has no heart. His time will come,” Josue Trinidad, Thomas’ nephew, told Channel 2. “There’s no getting away.”

The victim’s son begged the hit-and-run driver to turn himself in.

“God sees everything,” Jose Hernandez said. “And no matter what, I don’t have anything against you. With the love of God, just turn yourself in.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cobb police at 770-499-3900 or send an anonymous tip via the department's tip line, which can be accessed here.
