A Henry County homeowner shot a would-be burglar breaking into his boat shed late Tuesday night, officials said.
Henry County police spokesman Lt. Joey Smith said the owner of a home on Leigh Drive in Ellenwood returned home from work shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. The man’s dog “alerted to an open shed which stored a boat,” Smith said, and “a male subject attempting to take items” was discovered inside.
“The homeowner attempted to detain the suspect at gunpoint,” Smith said, “and at some point the suspect was shot once in the abdomen area.”
The suspect, who had not been identified as of Wednesday morning, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. He was expected to recover and will be charged with burglary and entering auto, Smith said.
“At this time there are no charges on the homeowner,” Smith said.
