Newton County sheriff’s deputies were asking motorists to avoid Ga. 11 at Little River Road on Friday, where a fatal traffic accident shut down traffic for hours.
A commercial vehicle and a passenger car collided head-on about 4:30 p.m., Deputy Felicia Jefferson said. One person was killed and another person was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center, she said. There was one other minor injury.
Some northbound traffic was being allowed to relieve congestion, but the southbound lane was still totally closed as of 9:45 p.m. so deputies could conduct the investigation, Jefferson said.
No identities are being released at this time, she said.
