Four people were held by authorities after a chase that began at a Hall County traffic stop, continued on I-85 and ended in a crash.
Shortly before 3 p.m. Friday, a Hall County deputy pulled over a car with three people inside for speeding at Friendship Road near Friendship Farms Drive, said Derreck Booth, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
Two men ran from the scene, Booth said. One was thought to have carjacked a vehicle with two women inside. Another man is still at large.
The driver remained on the scene, according to Booth.
The apparently carjacked vehicle headed south, and a Georgia State Patrol trooper took over the chase on I-85 near Pleasant Hill Road in Gwinnett County, Booth said.
About 3:30 p.m., the trooper performed a PIT maneuver on the car near I-285 and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Booth said. The car crashed, but no one was hurt.
“Further investigation revealed that the two women in the vehicle weren’t victims of a carjacking, but were actually affiliated with the male suspect,” Booth said. “Deputies determined that what appeared to be a physical struggle in the fleeing vehicle was actually the suspects switching drivers.”
Identities and other details were not released.
The investigation is ongoing.
