An hours-long SWAT standoff in Habersham County ended Tuesday morning with the arrest of a man accused of shooting and killing one man and injuring another.
Tommy Savage had been holed up inside a home in the 1000 block of Garrison Road following a domestic incident that took place about 2 a.m. between Savage and a woman living at the residence, police told WTOC-TV in Savannah.
The woman left and returned with two men, who Savage allegedly shot between 3 and 4 a.m.
One of the men was killed during the exchange. The other was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released, WTOC-TV reported.
Authorities pointed rifles at the house Savage occupied after the shooting, which is near the city of Cornelia between Garner and Pea Ridge roads. A Georgia State Patrol helicopter and K9 units were called to the scene, Habersham Sheriff Joey Terrell said in a Facebook message.
At one point, Habersham sheriff’s deputies went door to door to ask all citizens to leave the area.
Just before 11 a.m., the sheriff told Channel 2 Action News Savage had been taken into custody without incident.
“The area has been cleared, but the investigation is still ongoing at this time,” the sheriff’s office said in another Facebook post.
According to Channel 2, Savage is the father of a college student who was convicted of making bombs in 2012.
