A woman and her friend may have a chance at redemption, but for one family it’s at the expense of their loved one’s life.

A judged ruled Noelle Gretzinger and her friend Jennifer Schoeppler get five years of probation for their involvement the 2014 killing of Gretzinger’s boyfriend, Brandon Gaylor, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The women were charged with first degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, racing, and speeding, hit and run and tampering with evidence, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

Gretzinger and Schoeppler entered Alford pleas Wednesday, Channel 2 reported. An Alford plea allows a defendant to assert their innocence, but admits a guilty plea is in their best interest.

Gretzinger, Schoeppler, Gaylor and two other people were racing along Duncan Creek Road in Gwinnett County when Gaylor slowed his motorcycle down outside his home, according to previous reports. Jennifer Schoeppler, a friend, slid her car into Gaylor knocking him off his motorcycle.

Gaylor was lying on the ground when Gretzinger hit him, the AJC reported. Gretzinger and Schoeppler tried to hide Gretzinger’s car before police arrived. Two other cars were rearranged when police arrived.

“They let him lay on the road while they made up their stories,” Gaylor’s mother told Channel 2.

The probation pleas only upset Gaylor’s family who told urged the judge to give the woman jail time, Channel 2 reported.

Gaylor’s family told the news station they wish their son had a second chance as Gretzinger and Schoeppler.

“I want them to have time to think about what they have done,” Donnie Gaylor told the news station.

Titus Newsome entered an Alford plea and was given three years on probation for tampering with evidence.
