A man who had just been involved in a minor crash on I-85 in Gwinnett County was hit and killed by a passing vehicle, authorities said.

Ridwan Shirwa, 54, of Lawrenceville, was involved in a minor collision while driving north near Jimmy Carter Boulevard around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Gwinnett police said in a news release.

Both vehicles involved in the wreck pulled into the right lane, and Shirwa got out of his vehicle and stepped into the roadway, the release said. He was then hit by a passing maroon 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse, killing him.

The driver of the Mitsubishi stopped after the incident. No other details were released. AJC.com is withholding the name since the driver hasn’t been charged.

An investigation is ongoing.
