A seven-hour SWAT standoff at a Gwinnett County townhome was resolved peacefully Saturday morning, police said, and an 18-month-old girl inside the residence was unharmed.

Gwinnett County police Sgt. Randy Work said officers were called to the 2600 block of Pointcrest Way near Grayson at around 11:45 p.m. Friday. A woman there said her boyfriend, Chad Prather, “was intoxicated and had brandished a weapon towards her during [a] dispute.”

“She further stated that her 18-month-old child was now inside of the residence with the suspect,” Work said in an emailed statement.

Officers’ attempts to make contact with Prather were unsuccessful and the SWAT team was called to the scene. The SWAT team sent robots into the townhome, but still made no contact with Prather.

They entered the home around 7 a.m. and took Prather into custody without incident, Work said.

“The child was found to be unharmed and returned to her mother,” Work said.

Prather was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and obstruction of a 911 call. Gwinnett County jail records showed he was being held on $12,700 bond.
