One person was wounded after “a series of shots” were fired Monday night outside a metro Atlanta grocery store.

About 9:10 p.m., officers responded to a Krystal fast-food restaurant and found the victim with several gunshot wounds, Clayton County police spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said in a statement.

“Officers located a male ... and were able to determine that the shooting occurred in the parking lot of the nearby Kroger” at 3618 Ga. 138 in Stockbridge, she said.

Witnesses told police about five or six males were helping a female who locked her keys in her car.

“As the males maneuvered around the vehicle, a female exited a vehicle that was parked nearby and began yelling at the males, insisting that they needed to move,” Marbury said. “When the males became engaged in a verbal altercation with the female, a male brandishing a gun exited the same vehicle and became involved in the verbal altercation as well.”

During the argument, at least one of the people helping the locked out driver opened fire, according to police.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Marbury said. “... At this time, names are not being released and there has been no determination as to whether or not charges will be filed.”
