Granddad identifies teen shot and killed in front of his DeKalb home

A grandfather identified his 17-year-old grandson as the victim of a deadly shooting that littered a DeKalb County neighborhood with bullets and killed the teen in front of his own house overnight.

The shooting leading to the death of victim Rakwon Reid happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Shore Drive, the victim’s granddad Willie Haigler said.

Detectives checked the street and hedges for evidence and searched for bullet holes at an area house the next morning, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Haigler said he was a good kid, a class clown and a student at Stephenson High School. He had three sisters and was the only boy.

“Last week, I just got back off vacation, and we were laughing, and playing, teasing each other,” Haigler said. “He just had a birthday Sunday, so this is just unbelievable.”

Police said they don’t know if the killer was on foot or engaged in a drive-by shooting, and the homicide unit is trying to figure out why the teen was a target.
