A North Georgia woman was given a two-year prison sentence in connection with the May 2017 drowning of her 3-year-old son.

Bobbie Jessica Prather, 32, entered a negotiated plea Tuesday in Bartow County Superior Court, according to records. She will be on probation for 18 years after her prison term ends and will get credit for time served, dating to May 29, 2017.

Prather pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct and three counts of second-degree cruelty to children, court records show.

She left her son alone for more than 14 hours before he was found unresponsive in a swimming pool, officials said at the time.

Police and paramedics were called to the home near Cartersville, according to Bartow EMS director Brad Cothran. A deputy pulled Jagger Settles from the pool, but he was unconscious and not breathing.

Paramedics determined the child had been underwater too long to be resuscitated, Cothran said.

A few hours later, Prather was arrested.

Three other children were removed from the home and placed in protective custody, sheriff’s Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said.
