An Uber driver in Augusta said his last pick up of the night took a turn for the worse.

Matthew Johnson was about to call it quits when he picked up his last passenger about 2:45 a.m. Saturday, according to WRDW-TV.

“The entire trip [he] was cussing, very disrespectful, belligerent,” he told the Augusta television station.

Johnson said he knew the passenger was in bad shape from the moment he got in the car, and he just wanted to get him home safely.

“As I was opening up the door,” Johnson said, “he grabbed my neck.”

Johnson managed to call 911 and made it out with just a scratch on his eye.

The passenger, James Vautaw, 43, was arrested and charged with simple battery. He was released on $1,600 bond, according to Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
