A recent lottery winner was shot and killed during an overnight home invasion in south Georgia, authorities said Thursday.

According to WALB-TV in Albany, intruders broke into a home in Fitzgerald, then shot and killed Craigory Burch Jr., a forklift operator who won the $434,272 Fantasy 5 jackpot in November 2015. Burch's girlfriend was home at the time of the invasion and ran for help, officials told the television station.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Friends told WALB that Burch used some of his winnings to buy Christmas presents for people in need.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office at 229-426-5161.

Fitzgerald is more than 170 miles southeast of Atlanta.
