The GBI has opened a death investigation in Douglasville after a 27-year-old intoxicated man died, authorities said.

Officers were sent Monday to the state probation office on Duralee Lane because of Colby Hendon, who was intoxicated and needed immediate medical attention, Douglasville police said in a Facebook post.

State probation officers helped Hendon get into a police car, and the officer drove him to an emergency room, the post said. Hendon died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The GBI was asked to investigate because Hendon was taken to the hospital in a police vehicle, the post said. No other information was provided.

AJC.com has reached out to the GBI to see if more information on the investigation is available.
