One person was killed in an officer-involved shooting Friday night in Cherokee County, the coroner said Saturday.

The shooting happened about 9:15 p.m. in the parking lot of the Walmart located on Ga. 92 and Trickum Road, Woodstock police spokesman Brittany Duncan said late Friday.

The officer was not injured, she said. The person shot was taken to a local hospital, but did not survive.

“It did result in death,” Cherokee County coroner Earl W. Darby told Channel 2 Action News. “To the best of my knowledge, the family has not been notified so the name is not released.”

Duncan referred all questions to the GBI, the agency investigating the fatal shooting.

GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang was not immediately available for comment.
