A Duluth gas station cashier put a stop to an armed robbery Tuesday morning when he shot the suspect in the leg, police said.

Officers arriving about 3:35 a.m. at a Shell station in the 3400 block of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard found the wounded man lying on the floor near the cash register.  He was identified by Duluth police as 21-year-old Christian Saint Amour, department spokesman Officer Ted Sadowski said in a news release.

Saint Amour was taken to Northside Hospital Gwinnett.

“During the investigation, surveillance video showed a black male run into the Shell, with a red shirt covering his face armed with a knife,” Sadowski said. “The male continued to run in the store towards the cashier area still armed with the knife. At this time, the cashier then shot the armed male one time in the left leg.”

The man fell to the floor and the clerk immediately called 911, he said.

When police responded, they gave medical aid to Saint Amour before Gwinnett County fire crews arrived to take him to the hospital. He is facing charges of attempted armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a knife during the commission of a felony and wearing a mask to conceal his identity, according to police.

Saint Amour was arrested two times in Gwinnett last year for alleged probation violations, online jail records show. He has not been booked on his most recent charges.
