A man accused of choking a woman in front of her child and kidnapping her was arrested Wednesday, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities said Darrell Darnelle Dixon, 33, of Atlanta, had been on the run since the April 13 assault.

Dixon assaulted a woman with a gun and choked her while lifting her off the ground in front of her 8-year-old, Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill said in a news release.

Dixon then put the woman in the trunk of his car and kidnapped her, the Clayton sheriff’s office said.

Dixon’s relationship, if any, to the woman was not released.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Dixon in Atlanta and took him to the Clayton County jail, where he remains without bond.

He faces two counts of aggravated assault, battery, kidnapping, false imprisonment, cruelty to children, theft by taking and pistol/gun-pointing charges.

His first court appearance is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday.
