Police have arrested a man accused in the shooting deaths of two family friends Sunday in Gwinnett County.

Davon Dayron Jones, 24, of Duluth, faces two counts of felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault, Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera said just before 9:15 a.m. Monday.

Jones lived in the home where the deadly double shooting happened, police said.

“The victims were family friends of the suspect who had been invited over to the home earlier in the day,” Detective David Smith said.

Police received a 911 call from a home in the 2100 block of Hopkins Mill Lane about 8 p.m., he said.

“The caller stated two males had been shot inside the residence and the suspect fled the scene,” Smith said.

Officers who responded to the scene found one man dead and rushed a second man to Gwinnett Medical Center-Lawrenceville, where he died.

Police on Tuesday identified one of the men as Charles Tyree, 40, of Norcross. Authorities identified the second victim Wednesday as Michael Liberty, 51, of Norcross.

“According to the initial report, Liberty and Tyree were shot in the garage of the home,” Pihera said.

Jones is being held at the Gwinnett jail.

“The lead investigator is still in the process of determining what events took place leading up to the shooting,” Pihera said.
