A 22-year-old man was killed overnight at an apartment complex popular with students attending the University of North Georgia’s Gainesville campus.

Police say they have charged Eric Aurelio Reyes, 25, with malice murder. Neither Reyes or his victim, 22-year-old Evan Isaac Rosas, were UNG students, said Gainesville police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook.

The incident occurred at The Preserve at Tumbling Creek Apartments, located within walking distance of campus.

Andrew Chrisley, who lives in the complex, told Channel 2 Action News he overheard a loud fight inside a nearby apartment.

Rosas was found outside the building with stab wounds. He died after being transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
