A former paramedic was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to sexual abuse charges.

Scott Driscoll Bailey, a 45-year-old from Fayetteville, confessed that he intended to use a prescription muscle relaxer to have sexual relations with a child, officials said.

In August 2015, Bailey responded to an internet advertisement that said a mother was looking for someone to teach her 9-year-old daughter to have sex, U.S. Attorney John Horn said in a news release Tuesday.

Bailey spent the next 10 days communicating with the person he believed to be the mother, Horn said. Bailey said that he had sexual encounters with young girls before, that he used to be a paramedic and that he would bring a powder to slip into the girl’s drink to relax her.

Bailey arranged to meet the mother and daughter at a fast-food restaurant in Brookhaven. There, he discovered he had been corresponding with an undercover FBI agent.

Bailey was arrested upon arrival. According to a release, agents searched his car and found condoms, lubricant and a prescription muscle relaxer. Bailey told an agent he brought the muscle relaxer to grind into a powder and intended to give it to the girl. He also confessed that he planned to have sex with the child.

Bailey will serve 10 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation.
