A former Atlanta police officer has been charged with aggravated assault as a result of a fight he had with another officer, police said.

Joseph Tyer has been arrested and is not a fugitive, Atlanta police said in an email Friday afternoon to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Tyer had resigned from the force this week. He and officer Stephen Green were investigated for recently getting into a fist fight at a Buckhead restaurant where a gun was allegedly pulled, police said. Green has been placed on administrative leave.
