After responding to as many as three cases a day involving counterfeit money, police have arrested a Statham man in connection with the incidents.
Winder police began an investigation after receiving “numerous” reports of counterfeit money being passed at local businesses, according to a Facebook post.
This led to the arrest Tuesday of Michael James Crowe, 33, police said.
Police stopped Crowe while he was driving and said he had counterfeit money with him. Officers later searched his residence and found 17 mobile devices, six digital memory cards, two computers, three inkjet printers/scanners, and other material used to make counterfeit money, police said.
A total of $1,800.00 in counterfeit money was seized, police said.
Also, police said they found drug-related objects when they searched Crowe’s residence.
Crowe was charged with two counts of second-degree forgery, possession of tools used in the commission of a crime, and possession of drug-related objects.
The Secret Service is assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing.
