A Gwinnett County couple thought they were being pulled over by undercover cops.
Instead, they were robbed at gunpoint — and one of them violently attacked — by two men posing as police officers, according to a Chamblee police report.
The incident occurred near Dering Circle and Buford Highway around 10 p.m. Tuesday. The suspects’ vehicle, a white Dodge Charger, resembled a police car and had blue flashing lights, Chamblee police Officer Lafayette Evans wrote in the report.
But when guns were drawn, the couple realized it wasn’t a traffic stop.
According to the report, the two men ran to the car and ordered the couple to hand over their belongings. Police said one of the victims was pulled from the car and forced to the ground, causing him to scrape his right arm.
The thieves made off with $300, a debit card, a Mexico passport, a purse, a Medicaid card and the keys to the victims’ car, the report stated.
But without a description of the suspects and few details about the car they were in, Chamblee police may have difficulty making an arrest.
“We want to caution the public to not stop for a police car or someone flashing their lights,” Chamblee police Capt. Ernesto Ford told Channel 2, “unless they can positively identify it's a police car.”
