A man accused of threatening to kill his former coworkers at an Alpharetta Kroger if he didn’t get his final paycheck told Channel 2 Action News he wasn’t the person who made the threats — it was his twin brother.

Demarious Merkerson, who was arrested Oct. 3, faces felony charges for allegedly saying he would kill everyone inside the store on Crabapple Road, Alpharetta police said.

He spent more than two weeks in the Fulton County Jail before bonding out Friday for $20,000, according to jail records. He told Channel 2 that he did call the Kroger, but that his twin brother made the threats that put him in jail.

“I called up there, but I didn’t threaten them,” Merkerson said. “I was outside, and somebody in the background said, ‘I will kill you. I will kill everybody.’ It was not me. It was somebody else.”

Police previously told Channel 2 that officers responded to the Kroger twice because of the threatening calls. He told the news station he doesn’t know why his brother got involved.

“My brother — he don’t stay with me, and I had went to jail for that,” Merkerson said. “It was messed up. It was wrong.”

He still faces charges of felony terroristic threats and harassing communications, Fulton County Jail records show.
