An Illinois man originally in court on DUI charges was arrested Thursday and faces theft charges after Paulding County officials said he stole money from the families of cheerleaders at a gym he owned.

Craig El was turned over to Paulding authorities after he appeared in court on an unrelated DUI charge out of Cobb County, Channel 2 Action News reported.

El was the owner of GymTyme Georgia in Dallas when he allegedly stole money intended for competition fees and left town, the news station reported. The exact amount of money he stole is unknown but is reportedly in the thousands.

According to the news station, 24 victims have come forward, but prosecutors believe as many as 80 people were affected.

El remains in the Paulding County jail on a $24,000 bond.
