A man accused of charging his car toward an officer is in the hospital Tuesday, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Alton Lumpkin, 24, allegedly smashed into multiple police cars Monday about 7 p.m. as he fled officers attempting to pull over his maroon Chrysler on Flat Shoals Parkway, the news station reported.

An officer fired a shot to stop Lumpkin as he sped toward him but missed. Lumpkin drove his car to a house, crashed into a tree and flipped.

Lumpkin was released from jail two months ago, where he was charged with failure to appear in court, according to Channel 2. He was being treated for minor injuries at Grady Memorial Hospital, police said.

A passenger, who was not named, was arrested and released when police found he was not involved.
