More than 40 Maltipoo dogs were rescued from a Middle Georgia puppy mill, according to the Atlanta Humane Society.

The Atlanta Humane Society took in 44 Maltipoo dogs Monday who were found living in “extremely neglectful condition” at a puppy mill in Monroe County.

A tip led Monroe County deputies to discover the dogs living in “unsanitary condition,” the Atlanta Humane Society told AJC.com. The address where the dogs were found has not been released.

Charges are pending in this investigation.

Seven of the dogs were completely missing their bottom jaw, which is the result of years of neglected dental care, the humane society said. Several of the dogs, including a mother with one-day-old puppies, were also extremely matted, while others had skin or eye issues.

The humane society said many of the dogs will need “extensive medical care and long-term foster care before they are ready for adoption.”

The humane society said criminal charges are pending. The Towaliga District Attorney’s Office was also tipped off about the puppy mill.

The address of the puppy mill was not provided.
