Police are trying to find two people they say shot a dog in the head and left its body in a bag beside a road.

Johns Creek police spokesman Capt. Chris Byers said the dog was found in a black bag along Abbots Bridge Road late last month, Channel 2 Action News reported.

A woman told police her three children saw a man wearing white gloves drop the bag off in the grass, before getting into his car and speeding off.

Authorities said before the woman called police, she opened the bag a little and saw the dog inside.

Officers said the dog appeared to be a young shepherd mix about 60 pounds, and had a small-caliber bullet hole in the top of its head.

Police reviewed surveillance video from a nearby BP gas station but the camera was too far away to distinguish the type of car involved, Channel 2 reported.

Byers urged those who did it to come forward to help investigators “piece together exactly what happened.”
