27 displaced after fire burns through 6 DeKalb apartments
Just days before Thanksgiving, six families in Panthersville won’t be able to celebrate at home.
Instead, they’re in the care of the Red Cross after a Monday morning fire spread at the Thornberry Apartments off Picadilly Place in DeKalb County, displacing 27 people, the nonprofit said in a news release.

The fire began around 8:40 a.m., and resident Tameka Nichols told Channel 2 Action News she saw smoke spewing from the electrical socket in her bathroom.
“The fan in the bathroom stopped,” Nichols said. “The electrical system stopped working and smoke started pouring out of the electrical sockets.”
More than 20 PEOPLE now have nowhere to call home following a large fire at a DeKalb County apartment complex.

DeKalb firefighters told Channel 2 the fire quickly spread from apartment to apartment. No one was injured during the incident.

The Red Cross said they’re providing caseworkers to offer help and recovery resources to those displaced, such as health services and emotional support.
