Sept 25, 2019

A volunteer assistant basketball coach at a DeKalb County middle school was arrested Tuesday after allegedly molesting one of her players, authorities said.

Alexandra Makupson, 23, of Lithonia, was charged with child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes, Channel 2 Action News reported. She’s accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a Cedar Grove Middle School student, the DeKalb County School District confirmed.

The former coach and the 13-year-old girl allegedly admitted they met off campus to have sex on four occasions between March and June, according to court documents obtained by Channel 2.

The school district released a statement on the arrest that said, in part: “DeKalb County School District police investigated the incident thoroughly upon learning of the alleged relationship ... The volunteer assistant coach in question was never a DeKalb County School District employee.”

Makupson was booked into the DeKalb County Jail, where she remains without bond, Channel 2 reported.

The school district’s investigation is ongoing.
