A DeKalb County man who raped an 8-month-old family member is heading to prison after a judge on Friday sentenced him to life.
Jose Ambrocio Duarte pleaded to rape, aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, aggravated battery, incest and cruelty to children in the first degree for his actions while babysitting in December 2014, spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s Office Megan Matteucci said in a news release.
When the baby’s parents came home, she was covered in vomit and had blood in her diaper, Matteucci said.
Brookhaven police arrived and found Duarte with blood on his hands and he later admitted to police that he attacked the baby in the bedroom while the siblings were in another room.
“Officers did a phenomenal job of collecting and preserving the evidence,” DeKalb District Attorney Robert James said. “Because of their efforts, we were able to secure crucial DNA evidence that conclusively tied the defendant to these crimes.”
The judge sentenced Duarte to three life sentences to run concurrent.
