The man found dead inside a Clarkston apartment early Friday was an acquaintance of the apartment's renter, police said.

According to DeKalb police Capt. Stephen Fore, there was an altercation sometime Thursday night. Around 4 a.m. Friday, the acquaintance went to the Silver Oaks Apartments in the 1200 block of Brockett Road, forced his way into the renter's unit and was shot by the resident.

The intruder was dead when officers arrived on the scene. The resident was taken to a local hospital to be checked out, but will be OK, Fore said.

He said no charges have been filed. Investigators are trying to determine if the shooting was in self-defense, Fore said.

The names of the two men have not been released.
