One man is dead and another is critically injured after they shot each other during a confrontation at a Norcross motel.

The GBI is helping Norcross police investigate the fatal incident, which happened just before 1 a.m. Thursday.

Officers went to the Allround Suites in the 3100 block of Medlock Bridge Road after someone reported gunfire, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.

Police found 24-year-old Michael Tisdale shot to death in a room, Miles said.

Investigators determined that Mustafa Powell, 36, confronted the other man over a drug-related issue, and then shot him multiple times, killing him.

“During the confrontation, the victim returned fire and Powell sustained two gunshot wounds,” Miles said.

Powell ran from the scene, but was found later after he was treated at the Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth. He was transferred to the Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, where he is listed in critical condition, Miles said.

Powell is charged with murder in connection with the deadly shooting.
