Two men are in custody and a third person is being sought after an armed robbery attempt in the parking lot of a Sam’s Club near I-85, Chamblee police said Friday.

One of the people in custody was shot with his own gun as the robbery victim fought him off, police spokesman Ernesto Ford said in a news release. The victim was not injured, nor were any people nearby or officers.

About 1:30 p.m., officers responded to the store in the 2900 block of Clairmont Road after a report of shots fired, Ford said.

A man was putting items he had bought into his car when he was approached by two men, police said. One man drew a gun, pointed it at the victim and demanded his car keys.

The man tried to force the victim into his own car, and then the victim reached for the gun and they struggled for the weapon.

The gun went off, and both men ran, police said.

With the help of Brookhaven officers and a police dog, a search began. A Chamblee officer found the men sitting on a stairway near a parking garage. They were taken into custody without incident.

One of the men had a gunshot wound to his hand after the struggle with the victim, police said.

The third person who is wanted was seen on video driving a vehicle that dropped off the men who are now in custody.
